The Spirit and Struggle of Lukman Harun should be Kept Alive Print E-mail

SC Building, UIN Online - Muhammadiyah chairman Prof Dr Din Shamsuddin said, keeping in mind the role of Muslim figures in contributing in the field of science to the international and the Islamic world, it is essential that regeneration be seriously considered. Thus the caderization of new leaders to boldly come forward is most important which in turn will positively contribute in shaping the image of Indonesia.

"Lukman Harun has passed away, but the fighting spirit and leadership for this nation should be kept alive," Din said in a seminar with the theme Lukman Harun, Muhammadiyah and Islamic World, held the Faculty of Social and Political Science (FISIP) in the Hall Student Center, Tuesday (1 / 12).

The dignitaries present during the event were the Rector of UIN Jakarta Prof Dr Komaruddin Hidayat, the Dean of Social and Political Sciences Prof Dr Bahtiar Effendy, the Vice Chairman of MPR RI Prof Dr Hajriyanto Thohari MA, Chairman of Indonesian Association of Islamic Banks (Asbisindo) A Riawan Amin, chairman of Muhammadiyah Economic Council Dr Anwar Abbas, and representatives of the Big familiy of Lukman Harun.

Din explained, Lukman Harun was a person who has a clear vision of politics in advancing the nation of Indonesia. According to Din, although Lukman Harun’s thoughts are somewhat pragmatic, but his sensitivity towards the underprivileged was very high.

"The work and services of Lukman Harun highly influenced Indonesian politics at the time. Moreover he is a political expert, diplomat, master, and also has a social conscience, “said Din who is also Professor of Islamic Political Thought at FISIP UIN. According to Din, Lukman Harun is the foreign minister of Muhammadiyah.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Yayasan Amal Bakti Muslim Pancasila (YAMP) Dr Sulastomo said, Lukman Harun has succeeded in fostering peace in politics by establishing the Muslim Party of Indonesia (Parmusi) chaired by Mintaredja.

After being denied the permission by the government to revive the Masyumi Party, he founded Parmusi, an organization for the Big Family of Crescent Star (Bulan Bintang), "explained Sulastomo.

However, Sulastomo continued, various changes in the early New Order led to doubts among Muslims, especially among the Big Families of Crescent Star (Bulan-Bintang)

Lukman Harun was born in lima puluh kota, West Sumatra, May 6, 1934. He completed his basic education in Limbanang and Payakumbuh, West Sumatra. He earned a degree from the Faculty of Social and Political Economy of National University, Jakarta (1962). His career started from an employee in the State Treasury Central Office Department of Finance (1952-1954).

Later he became Administrative staff at the Central Board of Community Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture (1954-1959). After that, he became Agrarian Administrator in the Directorate General of Agraria, Ministry of Home Affairs (1959). He was also a member of the House of Representatives GR / MPR GR. At Muhammadiyah he served as Chairman of the Foreign Relations / Spokesperson of Muhammadiyah. (Jaenudin/Irma)
