THE FACULTY OF DIRASAT ISLAMIYA AIMS TO PRODUCE graduates with expertise in the fields of Islamic studies and Arabic language at a standard equal to that of AI-Azhar University, Egypt. This Faculty was established in collaboration with AI-Azhar University, Cairo.
The Faculty of Dirasat Islamiya was established as the result of an agreement between Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (JIM) Jakarta and AI-Azhar University Cairo. Egypt, signed on September 17, 1999. The Faculty has the following main features:

1. It has the academic standard of AI-Azhar University. Egypt.
2. The Faculty adopts a curriculum which is based on competency, concentrating on three disciplines of knowledge, namely Islamic law, theology and Arabic language.
3. The language of instruction is Arabic.
4. The Faculty is expected to produce Muslim scholars with an holistic and moderate understanding of Islam.

The Faculty of Dirasat Islamiya has four areas of specialization:

• Arabic Language

THE AIM OF THIS AREA of specialty is to produce experts, researchers and professionals in the field of Arabic language and literature. The core subjects offered include Syntax, Morphology, Grammar, Stylistics, Literature and Critique, Rhyme, Encyclopedia and Arabic Dialects, Linguistics, Phonetics, Prose, History and Islamic Civilization. Comparative Literature, Research Methodology.

• Usul al-Din

THE ASM OF THIS AREA of specialty is to produce experts, researchers and professionals in the fields of theology and Islamic Studies. The core subjects offered include Quranic Sciences. Tajwid, Quranic Exegeses, the Science of Prophetic Traditions, Logic, Theology, Classical Islamic Thought, Islamic Philosophy, Modern Islamic Thought, the Methodology of Interpreters of the Qur'an and Sufism.

• Shari'a

THE AIM OF THIS AREA of specialty is to produce experts, researchers and professionals in the fields of Shari'a and Islamic laws. The core subjects offered are Jurisprudence, the History of Islamic Legislation, the Philosophy of Islamic Law, Exegeses of Legal Verses, Marriage Laws in Islam, Comparative Schools of Thought, Private Law and Criminal Law.

• Comprehensive Islamic Studies

THE AIM OF THIS AREA of specialty is to produce experts, researchers and professionals in the field of Comprehensive Islamic Studies. The core subjects offered include Quranic Sciences, Quranic Exegeses, the Science of Prophetic Traditions, Theology, Islamic Philosophy, Jurisprudence. Comparative Schools of Though, Syntax, Morphology, Grammar. Stylistics, Islamic Education and Da'wa.
Graduates of this Faculty will receive two academic certificates: a Bachelor of Islamic Studies (SSI) and a License from AI-Azhar University Cairo, provided that they follow a one-year study program at that University.
