THE FACULTY OF PSYCHOLOGY was the first new faculty to be established after the conversion from Syarif Hidayatullah State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) to the State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta. This Faculty was inaugurated with the issuance of Rector's Decree Number 004 in 2001.
The Faculty of Psychology is geared towards producing graduates who are able to help others overcome psychological problems, with solutions formulated within the framework of religious values.
At present, the Faculty of Psychology manages only one study program. Graduates from this program will receive the qualification of Bachelor of Psychology (S.Psi.). The Faculty aims to produce graduates who have scientific and professional abilities which can be applied in the field. The Faculty has 6 specialties as follows:

  1. Experimental Psychology
  2. Industrial and Organizational Psychology
  3. The Psychology of Education
  4. The Psychology of Development
  5. Social Psychology
  6. Clinical Psychology

This Faculty aims to produce graduates who are able to:

  1. Understand basic psychological knowledge and the techniques of objective observation, so that they can interpret and understand human behavior according to the principles of Psychology and Islamic perspectives.
  2. Understand psychological measurement devices and their function.
  3. Demonstrate sensitivity towards socio-psychobiologic issues and moral codes in the context of Indonesia and Islam.
  4. Conduct research in the field of Psychology.
  5. Internalize and implement scientific codes and be professional.

Recognizing these objectives, the basic skills that must be mastered are;

  1. Solidarity and awareness of others
  2. A broad and deep knowledge of social, natural and religious matters.
  3. Methodological competency, including statistics, scientific research and psychometric methods.

The core subjects offered at this Faculty include: Anthropology, General Psychology, the Philosophy of Mankind, the Psychology of Development, Educational Psychology, the Psychology of Religion, Social Psychology, the Psychology of Personality, Cognitive Psychology, Guidance and Counseling. Experimental Psychology, Psychology of Abnormality and Pathology, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Mental Hygiene, Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Psycho-therapy, Islam and Mental Hygiene, Research Methodology and Religious Counseling.
